Teresa B. Robinson first noticed something was wrong when she noticed that redness on the top of her foot had turned into a soft spot. She took the concern to her primary care doctor who immediately admitted her to the hospital for cellulitis and an abscess. Teresa underwent surgery and began IV antibiotics and inpatient wound care, although her husband was told that she would most likely lose her foot.
After 42 days in the hospital, Teresa was discharged, and her hospitalist suggested she continue wound care at the outpatient center, Terrebonne General Health System Wound & Hyperbaric Clinic. She agreed and began weekly wound care appointments.
The staff at the center addressed all of Teresa’s underlying conditions when crafting her personalized treatment plan, including her newly discovered type 2 diabetes. “They made sure I was educated and had all the supplies I needed to do dressing changes at home,” she added.
Teresa also praised the staff, especially the nurses and Dr. Poirot, for their excellent care. "They answered all my questions and treated me like family," she said. "They were excited to see me and my progress every week."
Since being discharged, Teresa is grateful to her husband for caring for her through this time but feels a great relief knowing she doesn't have to put the stress of her wound on him anymore. She is now back at work and excited to be involved with her church again. She is also looking forward spending time with her eight grandchildren. She considers this entire ordeal a true miracle and is grateful to all the staff who were on this journey with her, saving her life and her foot.
