FAQs

What do I need to bring with me to the hospital?

We ask all patients to bring their home medications in the original containers. It is very important that we get an accurate list of medications you are currently taking. This includes over-the-counter medications and herbal supplements.

You must also bring your insurance card, Medicare card, and any paperwork the doctor’s office may have given you about your hospital visit or surgery. It is essential to update your current information with each visit to ensure proper information is submitted with your insurance claim. Your Pre-admit nurse will inform you of any other items you might need to bring.

How can I find out if my insurance is accepted?

We accept most major insurance carriers. Call us or your physician's office for verification if your carrier is not included in the list below.

  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield
  • United Health Care
  • Cigna
  • Aetna
  • Terrebonne Parish School District
  • Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government
  • State Employee Group Benefits

How do I find out if my doctor can perform my surgery at PMC?

Please check our physician directory. The directory is listed both alphabetically and by specialty. You can also call PMC at (985) 853-1390.

Which entrance do I come in?

We have three entrances. The front entrance is for surgery patients only on the day of surgery. The middle entrance (on the right side) is for patient pickups and is our employee entrance. The last entrance on the right side is for Radiology services. Each entrance has a drive-thru canopy accommodating limited mobility or inclement weather conditions. Wheelchairs are available at all entrances.

Should I take my regular medications on the day of my surgery?

Your doctor or a nurse will give you specific directions regarding your medications during a pre-operative phone call. Don’t forget to mention any use of blood thinners (i.e., Plavix, Aspirin, etc.) during preoperative consultations.

Do I need a ride to and from my surgery?

Yes, you will. Due to anesthesia, you will not be permitted to drive for 24 hours after your surgery.

What will I do with my personal belongings?

After changing, all of your belongings will be safely stored in the pre-operative area. Remember to leave anything of value at home. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
